Norco High School
Addition Phase III – Corona-Norco Unified School District
Armstrong & Brooks was selected by WLC Architects to perform Civil Engineering services for the addition of a Performing Arts Theater and remodeling of the adjacent Administration Building and campus entrance, renovation of Norco High School’s existing stadium site and addition of a Field House/Ticket/Concession Building, including parking lot expansion, and renovation of the existing campus swimming facilities. The project is a challenge because of the time constraints involved in removing and replacing campus components (administration bldg., bleachers, track & field, swimming pool) without significantly affecting the on-going activities at the campus. The addition of new buildings to the existing campus necessitated numerous changes to the site’s existing path-of-travel and re-alignments to some of the campus utility infrastructure. Parking lot expansion necessitated a combination of additional land acquisition and use of retaining walls. The stadium renovation required coordination with the City of Norco in an effort to accommodate future street widening and parkway improvements and acceptance of off-site drainage.
Armstrong & Brooks prepared and processed Improvement Plans, Specifications and Estimates for Grading & Drainage, On-Site Sewer & Water and Fire Supply together with the required technical studies and reports. Services also include construction support for review and recommendations pertaining to contractor’s request for information and construction contract change orders. An aerial topographic and design survey was performed to establish the horizontal and vertical location of existing improvements at join locations.
The additions and renovations required coordination of several submittal packages in an effort to accommodate the construction manager’s schedule for completion. Armstrong & Brooks worked in conjunction with WLC Architects to overcome the complexities involved in processing multiple submittal packages for multiple work areas, including demolition plans and future points of connection to ensure a smooth transition from one phase to the next.
