Mira Costa High School
Manhattan Beach, CA – Manhattan Beach Unified School District
The project was designed and constructed in three phases:
- Phase I: Construction of a new Math & Science Building, parking lot and new fire lane access to the athletic fields.
- Phase II: Existing Pavement/Sidewalk Modernization and Rehabilitation.
- Phase III: Construction of new Multi-purpose and Performing Arts Buildings, including a Campus Quad and open air stage.
The project consisted of grading and drainage plans for facilities described in the project phases, as well as required site demolition and service utilities. Design challenges included maintaining campus facilities and operations during construction, providing ADA path-of-travel for the steep campus terrain, and the phasing of site utilities to suit the Multipurpose and Performing Arts Buildings. Project components included a Standard Urban Stormwater Mitigation Plan (SUSMP) for enhanced grassy swales, bio-retention facilities, pervious pavers and green media filtration systems. In addition, all civil related utilities were provided for on-site storm drains, sanitary sewers, and domestic and fire water facilities. The project involved coordination and permits with the Department of State Architect and the City of Manhattan Beach.
A&B is providing Construction Support Services, including review of all civil related shop drawings, responding to all contractor R.F.I.’s, field meetings and construction support, field changes, and coordination with the contractor and MBUSD on construction related civil engineering services.
